Garachico

Garachico

About the place

Garachico is one of the most atmospheric historic towns in the northwest of Tenerife, preserving its colonial character and traditional Canarian architecture. It was founded in the 16th century and for a long time served as an important trading port until the volcanic eruption of 1706 destroyed much of the town and its harbor. Despite this, Garachico was rebuilt and is now considered a perfect example of the harmony between historical heritage and natural volcanic landscapes. The natural lava pools of El Caletón, formed after the eruption, are especially popular and have become a safe place for swimming. Narrow cobbled streets, old churches, and cozy squares create a calm and authentic atmosphere of a small Canarian town. Today, Garachico attracts travelers seeking peace, history, and scenic views of the Atlantic Ocean.
