Horse Tail Waterfall

Horse Tail Waterfall

About the place

This waterfall sits inside the grounds of a 12th-century Cistercian monastery near Nuévalos, in the Zaragoza province of Aragon. The Piedra River plunges roughly 50 meters over a limestone cliff into a misty gorge lined with moss, ferns, and centuries-old plane trees. A carved passage, the Iris Cave, lets visitors walk behind the falling water for a rare view from inside the cascade. Downstream, the river widens into the calm Espejo (Mirror) Lake, contrasting the falls' force with a still, reflective pool. Together with the surrounding gardens and grottoes, the waterfall anchors one of Aragon's most visited natural parks.
