Monastery of Piedra

About the place
Piedra Monastery was founded in the twelfth century and later abandoned, leaving its stone structures open to the surrounding landscape. Over time, the Piedra River carved a system of gorges, waterfalls, lakes, and caves around the ruins. Inside the park, steep rock walls covered with moss frame narrow paths and flowing water, creating a continuous dialogue between architecture and nature. The Gothic arches and cloisters visually echo the nearby natural grottos, forming a unified spatial composition. The sound of falling water defines the atmosphere and reinforces the sense of isolation within the canyon.
