Mirador des Colomer is an observation point on the Formentor peninsula, in the municipality of Pollença in northern Mallorca. It stands beside the winding road that runs out to Cap de Formentor and takes its name from the islet of Es Colomer, which rises from the sea below the cliffs. The view runs west across the mountains and east along the peninsula to its tip, and the viewpoint is the first stop for most drivers heading out towards Formentor.

What makes it special
From the final viewing point the coast drops away in bare cliffs straight into the sea, and the islet of Es Colomer stands in the water below. Turn round and the view runs west over the mountains, then east along the Formentor peninsula to its far end. Come at sunrise and the light arrives over open water while the terraces are still empty.
The viewpoint has its own residents. Goats stretch out on the tarmac as if they own the road, and cats wander around the car park. In the busy season, when private cars are turned back further along the peninsula, this is where many drives to Formentor end, and the view is reason enough to have come.
Good to know
- The road beyond: in season, private cars cannot go past Formentor beach from 10:00. The rest of the peninsula is by bus or bike.
- Parking fills: the lot holds around ten cars and a few coaches. Later arrivals park in a line along the roadside opposite.
- Goats on the road: they lie on the tarmac around the viewpoint, so take the last bends slowly.
- Facilities: a toilet and a small snack and souvenir kiosk by the car park.
Getting there
The viewpoint sits right on the road out to Cap de Formentor, a winding drive with the car park at the roadside. There are two free parking areas, about 40 m and 180 m away in a straight line. The main lot fills early, and the overflow is a long line of cars parked along the roadside opposite, so a space there is the best bet if you arrive later.
Buses stop about 30 m away, at the Mirador des Colomer (Formentor) stop. From the car park, a short walk leads on to the final viewing point. Drive the approach slowly: goats rest on the road.
Best time to visit
Best: sunrise and the early morning.
Avoid: late morning and midday in summer.
As the day goes on, tour buses and cyclists fill the viewpoint and the car park, while at first light the terraces are quiet and the sun comes up over the sea.
