Monastery of Sant Pere de Casserres

About the place
The Monastery of Sant Pere de Casserres is an ancient religious complex situated at the tip of a dramatic meander within the Sau Reservoir area. Founded by the Viscountess Ermetruit in 1006, the current stone structure was completed around 1050 and has been remarkably well-preserved. The complex includes a unique church with three naves and a square bell tower that dominates the surrounding landscape. Visitors can explore the interior rooms, such as the scriptorium and the refectory, which offer a glimpse into the daily life of medieval monks. The remote location on a secluded ridge provides silence and a deep connection with the nature of the Collsacabra mountains.
