Porroig Bay is a natural bay on the south-west coast of Ibiza, in the municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia. The area around it is protected as a Special Area of Conservation. The bay is sheltered from the wind and its water stays calm. Local boats use it as much as bathers do, and fishermen's boat huts stand along the shore. The beach has no showers, toilets or places to buy food and drink.

What makes it special
The water barely moves. Porroig Bay is tucked out of the wind, and on a still day it looks like a big lake laid into the coast. Fishermen's boat huts sit along the edge of the shore, and boats come and go across the bay as much as swimmers do.
Nothing here has been built for bathers. There is no bar and no shower, only the beach and the water, which gives the place a quiet, unfinished feel. In winter the draw is the evening: the sunset view from the shore is the reason to come out of season.
Good to know
- No facilities: no toilets, showers or drinking water at the beach or nearby, and nothing to buy. Bring water and food.
- Calm water: the bay is sheltered from the wind, which makes it suit children.
- Boats share the bay: keep an eye out for boats moving in and out when you swim.
- Not wheelchair accessible: neither the parking nor the way onto the beach is accessible.
Getting there
Most people arrive by car. A parking area sits at the bay itself, and a second one, unpaved, lies about 600 m away in a straight line. From the first you are on the beach almost at once.
The nearest bus stop, Jondal 1, is about 2.2 km away in a straight line, so coming by bus means a long walk on to the shore. Carry water either way: there is none at the beach.
Best time to visit
Best: outside high summer, and winter evenings for the sunset.
Avoid: the peak summer months, when the beach fills.
Out of season the bay is quiet and the water calm, and in winter the sunset view from the shore is the reason to come late in the day.
