Sant Rafel Church is the parish church of Sant Rafel, a village in the municipality of Sant Antoni de Portmany, on the road between Ibiza Town and Sant Antoni. It dates from the late eighteenth century, when the island's countryside was divided into new rural parishes. The building follows the Ibizan rural type: thick whitewashed walls, a plain facade and heavy buttresses along its flanks.

What makes it special
Stand on the square in front of the church and look south-east: the view runs over the fields to the walls of Dalt Vila and the sea beyond.
The church itself is a clean white block, kept in good order, its flanks propped by heavy buttresses that throw deep shadows across the lime. Inside, the single nave is plain and cool. The setting matters as much as the building — open country on a rise above the village, quiet away from the coast.
Good to know
- There are no toilets at the church, and none nearby.
- No drinking water nearby either — bring your own, especially in summer.
- There is no tourist information point close by.
- The entrance is wheelchair-accessible, and so is the parking.
- The car parks closest to the church are for customers only.

Best time to visit
Best: late afternoon, within opening hours.
The low sun warms the white walls and the view towards Dalt Vila sharpens as the haze of the day lifts.
Avoid: midday in high summer.
The square is open to the sun, and the glare off the whitewash is hard on the eyes.
