Setenil de las Bodegas

About the place
Setenil de las Bodegas is an ancient town where the architecture is literally embedded into massive rock overhangs. Instead of traditional roofs, many houses and cafes here use the natural stone ceilings of the canyon walls. On narrow streets like Cuevas del Sol, the cliffs completely block the sky, providing natural shade and coolness even in extreme heat. Above the residential areas, the ruins of a Moorish castle and the Church of the Incarnation stand as reminders of the town's long history. A walk here shows how the traditional architecture of the region has been perfectly adapted to a challenging natural landscape.
