Teruel

About the place
Teruel sits on a plateau above 900 meters, with steep valleys and ravines shaping its terrain. The skyline is defined by tall brick bell towers adorned with intricate ceramic mosaics, and winding medieval streets leading to Santa Maria Gothic cathedral. The famous Escalinata staircase connects the modern train station with the historic center, built in Neo-Mudejar style. Dry mountain air and deep shadows give the brickwork of towers a warm ochre hue, enhancing the city’s timeless charm. Teruel is also the birthplace of the “Lovers of Teruel,” whose story is commemorated by a mausoleum visited by thousands each year.
