Frias

About the place

Frias is a unique medieval town that seems to have stepped out of the pages of ancient chronicles. Its main feature is the "hanging houses," which grow directly out of the rocky cliff on a narrow ridge. The town is dominated by Velasco Castle, with its unusual tower perched right on the summit of the rock. At the foot of the hill, a magnificent fortified bridge spans the Ebro River—one of the finest examples of medieval engineering in the country. Narrow cobbled streets and stone facades create an atmosphere of total immersion in the rugged and majestic history of ancient Castile.
