Rioseco Abbey

Rioseco Abbey is set in a picturesque valley surrounded by steep hills of the Tesla mountains, with the Ebro river flowing along its floor. The gothic ruins and Renaissance galleries rise above the valley, overlooking orchards and poplar groves. The architectural style blends strict Cistercian Gothic with elegant later modifications, where open roofs allow sunlight and sky to enhance the interior. For over a century, nature reclaimed the monastery until volunteers began restoration in 2010, reviving it as a symbol of cultural heritage. Highlights include the main cloister with preserved decorative elements considered the pinnacle of Renaissance art in Burgos province.
