Coca Castle

About the place
Coca Castle was built by the powerful Archbishop Alonso de Fonseca and served as a symbol of the wealth and influence of his noble lineage. Unlike most medieval fortresses, it is constructed entirely of brick and limestone, creating a distinct reddish appearance that glows in the sunlight. The castle is surrounded by a deep dry moat and features a complex system of towers, battlements, and underground galleries used for storage and defense. Inside the citadel, visitors can find vaulted rooms decorated with intricate geometric carvings and ancient tiles that reflect the luxury of the Castilian court. From the top of the main tower, a panoramic view opens up over the surrounding pine forests and the vast plains of the Old Castile region.
