The Troll Seat

The Troll Seat

About the place

Naustahvilft, the Troll Seat, is a bowl scooped into the mountain wall above Ísafjörður, in the Westfjords. Legend says a troll caught by the rising sun sat here to rest her feet in the fjord, leaving the deep hollow behind. A short but steep scramble on loose scree — about 170 m of climbing from the airport car park — earns a bird's-eye view over the town, harbour and airstrip, ringed by peaks. It is a summer-only walk, in sturdy boots, to one of the region's best free viewpoints.
