Gamla síldarvinnslan í Ingólfsfirði is an abandoned industrial complex and historical landmark. It was built between 1942 and 1944 and was one of the most modern herring factories of its time. The factory operated only until 1952 due to the disappearance of herring in the area. Today, its concrete ruins line the shore of the remote fjord. The surrounding cliffs and coastal boulder fields emphasize the solitude and harsh beauty of the location.
