Sudurland shipwreck

On the shore at Djúpavík, in the remote Strandir region of the Westfjords, the Suðurland is a rusted steel ship beached beside a huge abandoned herring factory. Launched as the M. Davidsen, she carried passengers and cargo for decades before being moored here in 1935 as a floating dormitory for factory workers during the herring boom. Her peeling orange-brown hull against the black cliffs is now one of Iceland's most photographed wrecks — a brief but haunting roadside stop.
