Sudurland shipwreck

About the place
Sudurland shipwreck is the rusting hull of a cargo-passenger ship launched in 1891, originally named M. Davidsen. It was moored in Djupavik in 1935 and used as a floating dormitory during the height of the local herring factory operations. The ship rests against a dramatic backdrop of steep sea cliffs and majestic mountains of Reykjarfjordur. Sudurland shipwreck serves as a melancholic historical landmark and a symbol of the industrial past of the Westfjords. The surrounding coastal boulder fields enhance the stark and atmospheric scenery.
