Gvendarlaug Hot Spring

Gvendarlaug Hot Spring

About the place

Gvendarlaug is a historic geothermal spring located in the remote Westfjords of Iceland, near the Icelandic Sorcery and Magic Museum. The spring was consecrated by Bishop Gudmundur the Good in the 13th century and is believed to have healing properties. The surrounding landscape is quiet and dramatic, with mountains plunging steeply into the sea. Visitors can experience both the old stone pool, an archaeological site where bathing is not allowed, and a modern open-air geothermal pool. Birds nesting on the nearby coastal cliffs add life to this secluded location.
