Valahnukamol Coastal Boulder Field

Valahnukamol Coastal Boulder Field

About the place

Valahnukamol lies at the very tip of the Reykjanes Peninsula near the Reykjanesviti lighthouse. The coast is formed of hundreds of thousands of large, rounded boulders polished by the Atlantic waves. High sea cliffs drop sharply into the ocean, while jagged offshore rocks rise dramatically from the water. Among these rocks, a lone stone pillar called Karl stands out. During storms, powerful waves crash onto the shore, making the boulders “sing” as the water retreats. A statue of the last wingless puffin pair reminds visitors of the area’s lost wildlife, adding a subtle note of melancholy.
