Gunnuhver Geothermal Area

About the place
Gunnuhver represents the raw and violent side of Icelandic geothermal activity. The area is dominated by a massive mud pool nearly twenty meters wide, constantly boiling and releasing dense columns of steam. The ground is stained in bright yellow, orange, and deep red colors due to sulfur and mineral deposits. The roaring sounds rising from beneath the surface, combined with the strong sulfur smell, create an infernal atmosphere. Unlike most geothermal areas in Iceland, the system here is fed by seawater, increasing pressure and chemical intensity. The site is named after Gunnas Spring, linked to a local legend about a restless spirit trapped within the boiling earth.
