Festarfjall

Festarfjall is a volcano the ocean cut in half: waves stripped away its seaward face and exposed the layered insides of a mountain built under a glacier. A pale dyke of hardened magma — Festi, the vent that once fed the volcano — runs up through the cliff, and folklore recast it as a troll woman's necklace turned to stone. The black-sand cove of Hraunsvík curves below, and paved Road 427 from Grindavík hands you the whole view from the roadside.
