Bridge Between Continents is a symbolic pedestrian bridge on the Reykjanes Peninsula. The bridge spans a fissure that is part of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, separating the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Walking across it allows visitors to literally step from America to Europe. The sandy fissure floor and surrounding barren lava fields create an otherworldly landscape. This site clearly demonstrates how geological forces continue to shape Iceland, with the plates moving about 2 centimeters per year.
