Stampar Craters
About the place
The Stampar craters sit in a lava field on the Reykjanes Peninsula, beside Road 425. Two volcanic fissures ran from the seabed onto land here — one about two thousand years ago, the other during the medieval Reykjanes Fires of 1210–1240. Together they left a four-kilometre line of craters across the grey rock. The two cones nearest the road give the whole row its name, and a short path leads up onto the rim.
