Hopsnes Lighthouse

About the place
The lighthouse stands on the Hópsnes spit just outside Grindavík, on the Reykjanes peninsula. Built in 1928, it marked the reef-strewn approach to what was long one of Iceland's most dangerous harbours. A single-lane gravel loop rounds the spit past three rusting wrecks, roofless fishing huts and black lava, with a plaque at each wreck. It stays windswept and quiet — most Blue Lagoon traffic never turns off for it.
