Hopsnes Lighthouse

Hopsnes Lighthouse is located on a rugged lava field on the Hópsnes Peninsula. Bright orange, it contrasts dramatically with the black jagged lava and deep blue Atlantic waters. The surrounding coast is scattered with the wrecks of fishing vessels, forming a striking “ship graveyard.” Informational plaques tell the stories of these wrecks and the crews that survived. Despite its proximity to civilization, the area retains a wild, untamed atmosphere, offering a powerful sense of Iceland’s maritime history.
