Gardur Old Lighthouse

About the place
The Gardur Old Lighthouse is a historic navigation symbol at the tip of the cape. Its low square white tower with red horizontal stripes has withstood the Atlantic waves since 1897. Its location makes it extremely photogenic and iconic along the Reykjanes coast. Due to coastal erosion, its navigational functions were moved to a new lighthouse in 1944. Despite its age and proximity to the sea, the tower has remained standing. It is now a popular spot for photographers who capture the dramatic ocean landscape.
