Viking World

About the place
The museum in Njarðvík is built around Íslendingur, an exact replica of Norway's Gokstad ship. Shipwright Gunnar Marel Eggertsson built it by hand in 1996 and sailed it from Reykjavík to New York in 2000, marking a thousand years since Leif Erikson reached America. Visitors can climb aboard the longship. Exhibits around it cover the settlement of Iceland and Norse seafaring.
