Kirkjuvogskirkja
About the place
Kirkjuvogskirkja stands in Hafnir, the quietest of the shore villages on the Reykjanes peninsula. The small timber church was built in 1860–61 and still serves the parish. Its walls are tarred black against the salt wind, the window frames picked out in white, and it faces the sea across a walled churchyard. The draw is the composition: a plain black form against green turf, grey ocean and moving weather.
