About the place
The Viewpoint of Our Lady of Peace is located at an elevation of about 215 meters above sea level, overlooking the town of Vila Franca do Campo on the island of São Miguel. From here, one can enjoy one of the most stunning panoramic views of the Azores archipelago: the sea, the rocky islet Ilhéu de Vila Franca do Campo, green valleys, and whitewashed houses in the valley area. The viewpoint is accessed via decorative stairs with 100 steps and 10 platforms, adorned with azulejo panels. The chapel itself dates back to 1764. The site combines natural beauty, history, and a peaceful atmosphere — perfect for walking, photography, or quiet relaxation.
