Bulnes

Bulnes

About the place

Bulnes is a traditional stone village located in the heart of the Picos de Europa mountains within the national park. Until 2001, the village had no road access and could be reached only by a steep mountain trail. Today, an underground funicular connects Bulnes with the valley while preserving its remote character. The village is divided into two quarters and built entirely from local stone, with narrow paved lanes and clear mountain streams. Sharp peaks rise directly above the rooftops, creating a powerful sense of enclosure and isolation. Bulnes is also a key base for climbers heading toward Naranjo de Bulnes, one of the most iconic peaks in Spain.
