Asturias

Asturias is an autonomous region in northern Spain, washed by the waters of the Bay of Biscay and known for its mountainous landscapes, green valleys, and scenic coastline. The capital of the region is Oviedo. Asturias’ history is closely connected to the early Reconquista and the formation of a Christian kingdom, which played an important role in resisting Muslim conquest on the Iberian Peninsula. The region’s culture is expressed through the Asturian language, traditional bagpipe music, folk dances, and distinctive cuisine featuring apples and seafood. Asturias is also famous for its national parks, such as the Picos de Europa, and the diversity of its natural landscapes from mountains to the coast.
