Castellfollit de la Roca

About the place
Castellfollit de la Roca village rises on a fifty meter high basalt cliff created by layered lava flows. The plateau was shaped over time by the Fluviya and Toronel rivers eroding the volcanic rock below. The silhouette of houses built directly on the edge of the cliff creates a powerful visual impression. The surrounding landscape is quiet and rugged, with vertical black basalt walls and lush greenery of the Garrocha volcanic region. The village appears to hover above the valley, where geology and medieval architecture merge into a single dramatic form.
