Cofrentes Volcano

Cofrentes Volcano

About the place

Cofrentes Volcano is a unique geological feature of the Valencian region. The volcano allows visitors to peer into the crater of an ancient formation dating from the Upper Pliocene to the Quaternary. The slopes are covered with dark volcanic rocks and porous tuff, contrasting sharply with surrounding limestone mountains. From the summit, panoramic views of the Júcar and Cabriel river valleys reveal the scale of the landscape, making rivers appear as tiny streams below. Fragments of volcanic glass and basalt can still be found along old paths leading to the crater, showcasing the enduring energy of the land despite the volcano being extinct, with minor thermal activity detectable nearby.
