The Ermita de las Nieves is a hermitage church dedicated to Our Lady of the Snows, standing on its own on the high ground of the municipality of Teguise in northern Lanzarote. The viewpoint beside it looks over the Famara cliffs (Risco de Famara) to La Graciosa in the north, and south across the island towards the volcanoes of Timanfaya National Park. It is open ground with a free car park and no facilities.

What makes it special
On a clear day the whole of Lanzarote seems laid out from here. The Famara cliffs drop away below the ridge, La Graciosa sits off the northern tip, and to the south the land runs on to the national park and its volcanoes.
The white hermitage stands alone on the top, with nothing else built around it, and the wind does most of the talking. The view takes in the same Famara cliffs as the Mirador del Risco de Famara, from the other side of the mountain, and it draws far fewer people.
Good to know
- There are no toilets and no drinking water at the viewpoint, and none nearby. Bring what you need.
- The wind on the top is strong. Bring a jacket, even when the coast below is warm.
- Cloud can sit on the ridge and hide the view entirely. Check the sky before driving up.
- One sat-nav route leads to a goat farm on a broken track that most hire cars cannot manage. Do not follow it.
- There is nothing to do here once the cloud comes down.
Getting there
Most people arrive by car or motorbike. The road up is in better shape than the one to the Mirador del Risco de Famara, but watch your sat nav: one route sends drivers down a broken track to a goat farm, and most hire cars will not get through.
The nearest car park is about 145 m away, and a second one, on bare ground, sits about 550 m out. An information board and a guidepost for the Ermita de las Nieves stand about 200 m from the viewpoint.
The nearest bus stop, Mirador de Los Valles, is about 2.2 km away in a straight line.
Best time to visit
Best: a clear day, ideally late in the afternoon.
Avoid: days when cloud is sitting on the high ground.
The ridge is the first thing the trade-wind cloud catches, and when it does the view disappears; in the afternoon the sun moves round to the west and lights the Famara side.
