Estada Castle

About the place
Estada Castle is a ruined stone fortress founded in the 11th century during the Reconquista. The castle occupied a naturally fortified rock, allowing control over river crossings and routes into the Pyrenean foothills. Its defensive system included massive perimeter walls and a central tower, of which only the foundations remain. The ruins merge directly with the limestone crest, making the rock part of the fortification itself. From the site, wide views open over the fertile plains of Somontano and distant Pyrenean peaks.
