Font Roja Natural Park is a protected area in the comarca of Alcoià, in the north of Alicante province, between the towns of Alcoy and Ibi. The Generalitat Valenciana declared it a natural park on 13 April 1987. It covers 2,298 hectares across L'Alt de Sant Antoni, the Carrascar de la Font Roja and La Teixereta, and its highest point is the summit of the Serra del Menejador at 1,356 m. It ranks among the best-preserved natural areas of the Valencian Community.

What makes it special
The trails climb through a thick wood of holm oak, the carrascar of the park's full name, with plenty of other trees mixed in, and come out at viewpoints over the surrounding towns and hills. One marked track leads up to a cave, an old charcoal kiln and a lime kiln, with panoramic views on the way. The top of the park is the Serra del Menejador at 1,356 m.
This is one of the best-preserved stretches of wild country in the Valencian Community. Wild boar and plenty of birds live in the woods, and the visitor centre explains which plants and animals you are walking among. Back down, there are picnic areas spread through the park, and the Font Roja spring runs with drinking water.

Getting there
The park sits in the hills between Alcoy and Ibi, and the road in is the Font Roja road on the Alcoy side. A free car park lies about 95 m away, with toilets at about 74 m and the Font Roja spring at about 66 m, so everything you need before a walk is close together.
No bus comes near. The nearest stops, Carrer Banyeres and Montgó s/n, are about 4.7 km away in a straight line, which makes a car the practical way in.
Ibi, on the other side of the park, has its own way up on foot. The walk from Ibi to the top and back takes about five hours.
Best time to visit
Best: spring and autumn, when the woods are mild for the longer climbs and the deciduous trees among the holm oaks are in fresh leaf or turning.
Avoid: midsummer afternoons for the red trail or the summit of the Serra del Menejador.
Inland Alicante runs hot in July and August, the summit route takes hours, and the high ground is best walked in the cool of the morning.
