Pont de Pedra

About the place
Pont de Pedra is a historic stone bridge built across a deep mountain gorge in the Serrella range. It spans a narrow tectonic fracture with sheer vertical walls, creating a dramatic passage suspended above the abyss. The man made stone arch fits so naturally into the rock that it appears to be an extension of the mountain itself. The bridge was designed for pedestrians and pack animals such as donkeys and mules transporting goods through the highlands. Its simple and robust form has endured centuries of harsh winters and seasonal floods.
