Lake Resia

Lake Resia

About the place

Lake Resia is an artificial alpine lake in South Tyrol, Italy, known for its 14th-century church tower that rises above the water. The lake covers about 6.6 km² and lies at an elevation of approximately 1,498 m above sea level. The lake was created in 1949–1950 after the construction of a dam, which merged several older lakes and flooded the old village of Curon; only the church tower remained. Today Lago di Resia is a popular recreational destination: a 15-kilometer trail around the lake is suitable for hiking and cycling; in summer boating and kitesurfing are possible, and in winter various ice activities take place.
