What makes it special

A shark slides overhead in the walk-through tunnel, and in the same tunnel injured sea turtles swim in their own sanctuary. They are rescued animals, nursed here in the hope of release back into the sea. The main tank also holds a large stingray, and it is easy to sit and watch it for a long while.

Feeding time is the moment to aim for: sharks and turtles are fed at the main tank at 12:30. Watch from the second viewing point at the end of the walkthrough. The first one sits too far back to see the action properly.

Around the rest of the hall are local fish species, pufferfish, axolotls, tanks of baby fish and touch tanks. The tanks are clean and the animals look well cared for.

Good to know

  • Plan it as a short stop: the whole aquarium takes 30 minutes to an hour.
  • Children over 12 count as adults, so a family with older children buys individual tickets instead of the family ticket.
  • Staff photograph visitors against a green screen; the pictures are offered for sale at the exit, and buying is optional.
  • Cards and contactless payment are accepted.
  • Everything is indoors, which makes it a fallback for a windy or grey day on the coast.

Getting there

The aquarium is inside the El Trébol shopping centre in Costa Teguise, so the last stretch is a walk in from the street or the car park. Drivers find a free car park about 30 m away, with street parking around it as well.

By bus, two stops serve the area: Hotel Salinas and Lanzarote Gardens, each about 260 m from the aquarium in a straight line. From either one it is a walk through the resort streets to the shopping centre.

Best time to visit

Best: late morning, arriving in time for the 12:30 feeding at the main tank.

Avoid: the last hour before closing, when there is not enough time left for a full visit.

The feeding is the highlight of the visit, and the rest of the tanks fit comfortably into the hour around it.
