Parc Natural de la Península de Llevant is a natural park in the municipality of Artà, on Mallorca in the Balearic Islands, declared in 2001. It takes in coastal cliffs, pine forest and heathland, home to hedgehogs, pine martens and toads. A network of numbered trails starts from the car park, from a 90-minute loop with views over the sea to routes of more than three hours that end at a remote beach. The park is also good ground for birdwatching.

What makes it special
Trail 10 climbs through loose rock and dirt, and at the top the sea opens out below you. It is a well-marked 90-minute loop that starts and ends at the car park, and just before the top a detour leads off to a church.
The longer trails keep going all the way to the water. Trails 5 and 6 both end at a remote beach, so you can walk down one and come back up the other; the return is a climb. Between the car park and the coast the park is pine forest, heathland and cliff, with hedgehogs, pine martens and toads living in it and birds to watch along the way.
Good to know
- There is no drinking water on the trails and none near the car park, and most paths run in full sun: carry water, snacks and a hat.
- Dogs are not allowed in the park.
- The free car park fills up later in the day, so arrive early.
- The trails are numbered and mapped on a board at the car park; trail 3 is the one the park guide recommends for pushchairs.
- Paths are loose rock and dirt with steeper patches; running shoes are enough for trail 10.
Getting there
You arrive by car or by bike: no bus stops near the park. From Alcúdia the drive takes about 50 minutes, most of it on a wide main road down the coast. The road narrows once you reach Artà, and the rest of the way is on narrow roads shared with a lot of cyclists; a large SUV gets through, but it is tight.
Follow the signs for the park to the car park at the end of the road. The trails start and finish here. A board maps every route, a GR 222 signpost stands beside it, and free toilets are about 100 m away.
Best time to visit
Best: early morning, and the cooler months outside high summer.
Avoid: the middle of the day in July and August.
The car park fills later in the day, and most of the trails run through full sun with no water along the way, so the longer routes to the beach are far easier in the cool of the early hours.
