Portinatx Beach lies in Portinatx, a former fishing village turned small resort on the northernmost bay of Ibiza, in the municipality of Sant Joan de Labritja. The beach is split into two stretches of white and cream sand, backed by conifers and edged by rocks on both sides. The water stays shallow for some distance out, and the village is known as a family resort. A wooded hill, sa Descoberta, rises to roughly 250 metres behind the town.

What makes it special
Pines stand along the shore, and their shade reaches the sand. The beach comes in two halves. One takes fewer waves and stays shallower than the other, and that is the side for small children.
The water is clear over pale sand and shallow for some distance out. Bring a mask: the rocks at both ends are where the snorkelling is, and the next beach is a stone's throw away.
Portinatx sits on the northernmost bay of Ibiza, about an hour from the airport, and it keeps the pace of a family resort: a playground near the beach, a few restaurants looking out over the sea, and no party scene.
Good to know
- Sun beds are paid in cash only. There are three cash machines on the road nearby.
- There are no public toilets or drinking-water points at the beach or nearby; buy water in the village shops.
- One half of the beach is calmer and shallower than the other, the better choice with small children.
- Portinatx is remote: about an hour by road from the airport, and the bus is infrequent, sparser still in winter.
Getting there
Portinatx is a remote corner of Ibiza, at the north end of the island and about an hour from the airport. The village road brings you almost onto the sand: two parking areas lie about 100 m and 140 m from the beach.
The bus stop named Portinatx is about 130 m away. The bus back to Ibiza Town runs rarely, so check the return time before you settle in for the day. An infrequent boat service also links Portinatx with Es Canar and Port de Sant Miquel.
Best time to visit
Best: June and September, early in the day or late in the afternoon.
Avoid: midday in July and August.
A summer resort fills up in high season and midday brings the strongest sun, while in June and September the sea is still warm and the sand has more room.
