Sant Joan de Labritja is the least-populated municipality on Ibiza and almost entirely rural: 7,046 people across 121.56 km² of the island's north. The village sits inland at 202 m, a single quiet street under a large church, with the town hall, a handful of small cafés and restaurants and a taxi rank. Most travellers come for the coast, where the resorts of Portinatx and Cala de Sant Vicent lie, and for the farmland and wooded hills between them.

When to go
Shoulder
Apr – May
The hills are green, the coast is warming up and Portinatx and Cala de Sant Vicent have room on the sand.
High season
Jun – Sep
The beach resorts fill, the bare coves get little shade at midday, and the Torrent de Labritja is a dry bed full of green growth.
Low season
Oct – Mar
The coast goes quiet, the village street belongs to the people who live there, and the Torrent de Labritja carries water through the winter months.
How long to stay
The village itself takes an hour or so: the length of the street, the church, a coffee outside the town hall. The municipality deserves two to three days, enough for a beach day at Portinatx, another at Cala de Sant Vicent and time in the farmland and hills between them. Staying in the north saves the back-and-forth across the island.
Getting around
Taxis wait at a rank in the village, outside the town hall and the local Guardia Civil post. Beyond that the municipality is spread thin: 121.56 km² of almost entirely rural land, with the village inland at 202 m and the resorts of Portinatx and Cala de Sant Vicent down on the coast. Each of those is its own trip from the village, so plan a day around one stretch of coast.
