Real Colegiata de Santa Maria la Mayor (Antequera)

Real Colegiata de Santa Maria la Mayor features a monumental facade with strict geometric proportions reminiscent of a triumphal arch. The church overlooks Antequera’s white rooftops and the famous Lovers’ Rock, blending history and landscape. It was the first building in the region designed according to classical Italian Renaissance principles. Inside, the church fostered the Antequera School of Poetry in the 16th century, gathering leading humanists and writers. Materials from the nearby ruined Roman city of Singilia Barba were reused, adding historical depth to the construction.
