What makes it special

Step in out of the sun and the Baroque altar holds the eye at once, carved in wood and framed by plain white walls.

The church dates from the 18th century and still serves the village as its parish church. Outside, the streets of Sant Josep de sa Talaia climb and drop around it, with Sa Talaia, the island's highest hill, above the rooftops. Several bars have terraces around the church. A look inside and a coffee outside make an easy hour.

Good to know

  • The church is closed on Mondays and shuts for a long break in the middle of the day; check the hours before you drive up.
  • On Sundays it opens only for a short window in the late morning.
  • The streets around the church slope constantly, so wear comfortable shoes if you plan to walk the village.
  • There are no public toilets or drinking fountains nearby; the bars with terraces around the church are the place to sit down and drink.
  • The entrance and the parking are wheelchair accessible.

Getting there

The church stands in the village of Sant Josep de sa Talaia itself, so the approach ends almost at the door whichever way you come.

By car, there are two car parks about 57 m and 90 m from the church in a straight line, with wheelchair-accessible spaces. In February 2025 finding a space was no problem.

By bus, the stop named Sant Josep is about 26 m away. From either, you are on foot for the last few steps, and the streets around the church slope.

Best time to visit

Best: Tuesday to Saturday, in the morning or at the evening opening.

Avoid: Mondays, when the church is closed, and the middle of the day, when it shuts until evening.

Those are the days and hours the doors are open longest, and in high summer the morning is also the cooler time to walk the sloping streets around the church.
