Vereda do Fanal Trail (PR13)
About the place
The Vereda do Fanal Trail (PR13) is a scenic route about 10–11 km long on Madeira Island that passes through the Paul da Serra plateau and the ancient Laurisilva forest to reach the Fanal forest. Along the hike, stunning views open onto the Ribeira da Janela valley, cloud layers, and the curved centuries-old trees of Fanal forest, creating a fairy-tale atmosphere. The route is of medium difficulty — the upper sections pass through mist and humidity, so appropriate clothing and comfortable hiking shoes are recommended.
