Alhambra is a palace-fortress ensemble rising on the Sabika hill above Granada. Inside its massive walls are the Nasrid Palaces, the former residence of emirs featuring unique stone carvings and mosaics. Nearby lie the Generalife gardens, a summer estate where rulers rested among villas and fountains. The defensive towers of the complex offer the best views of the ancient Albayzin district and the snowy Sierra Nevada peaks. This site is a key example of how Eastern luxury influenced the traditional architecture of the region.
