Berserkjahraun

About the place
Four scoria craters on the north side of Snæfellsnes erupted in quick succession about 4,000 years ago, and the lava ran from the hills down to the sea. The field is now mounded black rock under thick moss, with the rust-red cones standing above it. A narrow gravel track leaves Route 54, crosses the middle and rejoins the road, so you can drive in slowly and stop to walk. The name records a killing from the Eyrbyggja saga.
