Selvallafoss Waterfall

About the place
Selvallafoss lies on the north coast of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, a short way off Route 56. Lake Selvallavatn feeds it, and the water drops in tiers over a moss-covered wall you cannot see from the road until the last moment. Its name translates as 'sheep's waterfall', for the pastures the lake drains. What sets it apart is the short climb to the top, where you step behind the water and look out over the lake and peninsula. It stays much quieter than nearby Kirkjufellsfoss.
