Hraunfossar Waterfalls

About the place
The waterfalls stretch for nearly one kilometer where the Hallmundarhraun lava field meets the Hvita river. Groundwater from distant highlands slowly travels through the lava and appears as countless spring-fed streams. The contrast of dark basalt, bright moss, and pale turquoise water gives the area a distinct character. A short walkway with several viewpoints allows visitors to see the waterfalls from different angles. Hraunfossar is often visited together with nearby Barnafoss, located just a few minutes upstream.
