Barnafoss

Barnafoss

About the place

Barnafoss is a waterfall on the river Hvítá in Borgarfjörður, West Iceland, about 100 km from Reykjavík. The river is squeezed into a slot in the Hallmundarhraun lava field and driven through in a churning, foaming rush. A footbridge crosses directly above the rapids. Its calmer neighbour Hraunfossar is a couple of minutes downstream, and a single car park and path serve both. The name means Children's Falls, after a grim local legend.
