Grundarfoss Waterfall

About the place
Grundarfoss is one of the taller waterfalls on Snæfellsnes: a single ribbon of about 70 m dropping off a stepped basalt cliff into a green valley behind the town of Grundarfjörður. It sits in the shadow of its famous neighbour Kirkjufell, and that alone is worth the detour. The walk in from the road crosses open pasture shared with Icelandic horses and sheep, and the base of the falls is usually yours alone — no café, no platform, no crowd.
