What makes it special

Fishing boats rest in sheds cut into the rock at one side of the inlet, their doors just above the waterline. Between the cliffs the water turns turquoise over the sand, and the beach itself is a strip of pale sand at the head of the bay with pines at its back.

Cala Llombards has stayed relatively little known to tourists. Much of the crowd on the sand comes from the holiday villas of the resort around it, which gives the place the feel of a neighbourhood beach.

Good to know

  • Free toilets stand about 550 m away in a straight line.
  • There is no information point nearby.
  • The nearest bus stop is almost 900 m away in a straight line, so arriving by bus means a walk.

Best time to visit

Best: early morning or late afternoon, from late spring to early autumn.

Avoid: the middle of the day in July and August.

A Mediterranean island beach fills up in high summer, and the open sand takes the full sun at midday, while the ends of the day bring softer light on the cliffs and more room on the sand.

The headlands on both sides of the inlet are unfenced limestone cliffs, so keep well back from the edge. On days of swell, waves run into the bay: watch the sea before you swim.
