Cala Mastella is a golden-sand beach at the head of a long, sheltered inlet on the east coast of Ibiza, in the municipality of Santa Eulària des Riu in the Balearic Islands. Pine trees grow down towards the shore, and the water in the bay lies calm, without waves. The beach is known for its quiet, slightly wild character and for water clear enough for snorkelling. A beach bar serves drinks; there are no sunbeds or umbrellas.

What makes it special
Put your face in the water with goggles on and the sea life is right there below you, because the water is that clear. The inlet runs long and sheltered, so with no waves the surface lies as still as a lake, and you can swim a long way along it without fighting the sea.
The beach itself stays quiet. Pines stand behind the sand, fishermen's boat sheds sit on the rocks, and the place feels a little wild and unkempt. A beach bar sells drinks, and that is the full extent of the facilities.
Good to know
- There are no sunbeds or umbrellas for hire. Bring your own shade, towels and whatever else you need for the day.
- No toilets and no drinking water at the beach, and none nearby. Carry enough water.
- A small beach bar serves drinks.
- Seaweed can fill the water and line the sand, and litter is sometimes left on the beach.
- Pack swimming goggles: the water is clear enough to watch the sea life.
Getting there
Most people arrive by car. There are two parking areas close to the cove, about 40 m and 120 m away in a straight line, so there is barely a walk at all once you have parked.
Without a car, the nearest public transport stop is about 700 m away in a straight line, and the rest is on foot; the distance by road is longer than that. Carry everything for the day with you, since there is no water to refill at the beach.
Best time to visit
Best: a still summer morning, when the light comes in low over the open sea and the bay is at its calmest.
Avoid: winter, if you came to swim.
The beach faces east, so the morning sun falls straight down the inlet, and in the cold months the sea is chilly and a beach with no sunbeds or shelter has little else to offer.
